MyPractice Report: Hospital Care
Physicians and administrators in Ontario are dedicated to quality improvement; however, they do not always have the comparable regional and provincial data they need to inform their improvement efforts.
To help address this gap, Ontario Health provides confidential MyPractice reports for physicians and surgeons to aid in quality improvement. These reports provide personalized data and suggested ideas of improvement for physicians and surgeons to support practice and quality improvement across the province.

MyPractice Report: General Surgery
The MyPractice General Surgery report is part of Ontario Health’s provincial strategy to support quality improvement in surgery.
MyPractice reports are available to general surgeons who perform appendectomies, cholecystectomies, and select hernia repairs who bill to OHIP as the primary attending surgeon.
The report is confidential and contains post-operative opioid prescribing surgeon-level data in relation to peers. You will also get practical tools and resources to help manage your patients’ post-surgical acute pain, including advice on the appropriate use of opioids as well as suggestions to support you in improving health-care quality.
This report can be used as a tool to support your participation in the Ontario Surgical Quality Improvement Network’s Cut the Count campaign, and to earn credits toward the Maintenance of Certification program.
To receive the report, registration is open until March 15 to begin receiving reports in April, or until September 15 to begin receiving reports in October. Reports are refreshed with updated data every six months.
This report is not available to medical residents, students and trainees who have an eligible specialty and a CPSO number but do not bill to OHIP as a primary attending surgeon for a procedure during any of the reporting periods.

MyPractice Report: Orthopaedic Surgery
MyPractice reports are confidential, voluntary and available to orthopaedic surgeons who perform hip and knee replacements and who bill to OHIP as the primary attending surgeon.
Orthopaedic surgeons who perform hip and knee replacements can receive their post-operative opioid prescribing data alongside provincial-level and peer comparators to understand their prescribing patterns in relation to peers. The report contains practical tools and resources to help manage your hip and knee replacement patients’ post-surgical acute pain, including advice on the appropriate use of opioids.
The MyPractice Orthopaedic Surgery report is part of Ontario Health provincial strategy to support quality improvement in surgery. Other tools include the Ontario Surgical Quality Improvement Network, (a community of surgical teams from all specialties and hospital types dedicated to improving surgery for better patient outcomes). These complimentary data sources support evidence-based surgical quality improvement across the province.
This report can be used to earn three credits toward the Maintenance of Certification program.

MyPractice Report: General Medicine
Learn more about your data, so you can see your care patterns and how they relate to the aggregated data of your peers for several indicators, along with practical quality improvement tools and resources to help improve patient outcomes and their quality of care.
The methods and processes developed to extract the data for the MyPractice: General Medicine reports were developed as part of the General Medicine Inpatient Initiative (GEMINI).
To generate your personalized report, clinical and administrative data were extracted from your hospital’s electronic medical records systems and the following administrative databases: the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) database for emergency department visits; the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) for hospitalization records; and the Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) system.
For general medicine physicians in staff positions at hospitals participating in the General Medicine Quality Improvement Network, reports are sent to hospital-affiliated email accounts. We use hospital-affiliated email addresses to streamline verifying your CPSO number and to help ensure confidentiality. In cases where the hospital’s division has requested the report, the division lead may also receive a copy of your report to support quality improvement initiatives. It will not be shared with anyone else.
This report can help you earn credits towards the Maintenance of Certification Program. The activity can be claimed under “Section 3: Practice Assessment” and you will receive three credits per hour. Please note that this may include the time spent receiving feedback and reflecting on the feedback.
