Position summary

Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest from clinicians with expertise in quality improvement, digital health and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the position of Clinical Lead, Digital Implementation of Quality Initiatives. Initiated in 2022, the Evidence2Practice program aims to bridge the gap between evidence and clinical practice by supporting the digital implementation of Quality Standards and clinical practice guidelines across Ontario. Reporting to the Vice President of Quality, the Clinical Lead will provide expert advice and clinical leadership at the provincial level for the development, iterative testing, procurement, and implementation of AI-based clinical decision support tools to support the goals of the Evidence2Practice program.

Accountabilities

Key responsibilities of the Clinical Lead, Digital Implementation of Quality Initiatives role include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Champion the provincial Evidence2Practice program, modelling integrity, enthusiasm, and innovation. Align Evidence2Practice priorities with the Primary Care Action Team, the Digital First for Health strategy, and other Ontario Health initiatives to drive system-level impact.
  • External Collaboration & Clinical Engagement: Act as a clinical champion, mobilise peer clinicians, raise awareness of Evidence2Practice tools, and nurture a culture of adoption. Build and steward partnerships with Ontario Health programs, the Ministry of Health, and external stakeholders; lead key work-streams that ensure sustainability and scale.
  • Digital Health Innovation: Foster user-centred innovation by co-designing Evidence2Practice tools/ solutions with clinicians, patients, and stakeholders, and by guiding product selection/procurement. Define and interpret KPIs and other process metrics to inform data-driven optimisation, ensuring ongoing alignment with provincial digital-health goals.
  • Iterative Design & Development: Lead agile, iterative design cycles so Evidence2Practice tools integrate seamlessly into clinical workflows and meet evolving needs. Orchestrate implementation strategies, including but not limited to communications, training, and change-management supports, to position solutions for province-wide deployment and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education

  • Licensed Physician or Nurse Practitioner in Ontario, currently practicing and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) or the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • A minimum of five to seven years in a professional leadership role focused on digital innovation and/or quality improvement.
  • Additional academic qualifications in digital health (e.g., Health Informatics, Computer Science, Digital Health, Data Science) are considered an asset.

Experience and Expertise

  • Demonstrated expertise in digital health innovation, including the development and/or implementation of clinical decision support tools.
  • Experience in service delivery and/or quality improvement initiatives at the regional or provincial level is considered advantageous.
  • Proven system thinking and analytical capabilities to support the evaluation and optimization of digital health tools and initiatives.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of Ontario’s health care system, including eHealth strategies, the health informatics landscape, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Familiarity with commonly used digital platforms, including electronic medical records (EMRs).

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to effectively engage a diverse range of stakeholders and align digital health initiatives with broader provincial health system strategies.
  • A demonstrated commitment to advancing quality improvement, clinical informatics, and innovation within the health care system.
