Position Summary
Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Medical Director, Tissue.
This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the of the Ontario Health system. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.
The Medical Director, Tissue provides medical advice on Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network [TGLN])'s tissue screening, suitability and surgical recovery practices, including compliance with regulatory requirements and medical standards, and works with Medical Directors of Ontario tissue banks with respect to implementation of leading practices in donor suitability, tissue recovery and processing. This work will be undertaken remotely, with in-person meeting or travel required as mutually agreed.
Accountabilities
- Provide medical oversight to ensure that Ontario Health (TGLN)’s Tissue Program operates in compliance with America Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) medical standards, Health Canada Safety of Human Cells, Tissue and Organs and Regulations (CTO Regulations), and in accordance with Ontario Health (TGLN) operation procedures.
- Participate in the formulation, approval and implementation of medical policies and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general operating procedures with regard to donor screening, recovery and distribution including protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the operation of the quality assurance program as needed.
- Work with the Medical Directors of Ontario tissue banks with respect to the implementation of leading practices in donor suitability and tissue processing.
- Review, assess and provide documented opinion on tissue donor charts for donor suitability, as necessary.
- Provide education for Ontario Health (TGLN) personnel and/or other on relevant issues of donor screening, suitability and recovery, as requested by Ontario Health (TGLN) from time to time, either remotely or in-person as agreed to by the parties.
- Participate in meetings with Ontario Health (TGLN) and stakeholders as appropriate.
- Represent Ontario Health (TGLN) as a tissue medical expert on issues that may result in product recalls or adverse event notifications of a medical nature, as requested by Ontario Health (TGLN) from time to time.
Qualifications
- Current physician medical license and in good standing with a Canadian jurisdiction, with over 5 years clinical experience
- Understanding of Ontario’s tissue procurement system, and related regulations;
- Knowledge and experience in evaluating potential tissue donors consistent with America Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) medical standards, and Health Canada Safety of Human Cells, Tissue and Organs and Regulations (CTO Regulations);
- Experience in developing policy and procedures for tissue donation in keeping with relevant legislation, guidelines and Health Canada requirements;
- Experience with actions required as a result of product recalls or adverse event notifications of a medical nature;
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of stakeholders and develop and maintain effective clinical networks;
- An effective communicator and educator; with experience in development and delivery of educational materials;
