Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Provincial Medical Director, Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN). This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the evolution of the Ontario Transplant system. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

Accountabilities

The Provincial Medical Director, Transplant provides provincial clinical leadership and advises OH-TGLN on matters related to organ transplantation and to the broader transplantation community. The role supports the delivery of a high-quality, equitable, and sustainable transplant system by providing medical expertise, guiding clinical policy development, and fostering collaboration across transplant programs, donation partners, and other health system partners. Working closely with transplant programs, clinicians, and provincial health system leaders, the Provincial Medical Director, Transplant ensures that transplantation practices align with provincial priorities, evidence-based standards, and advocates to improve all aspects of transplantation. The Provincial Medical Director, Transplant will act as a champion and strong strategic communicator between OH-TGLN, transplant programs and the health care community, including providing strategic advice to drive system-level integration.

The primary responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Provides expert medical leadership to support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of organ transplantation services across Ontario.
  • Provides OH-TGLN Clinical Leadership Team with advice on strategy, policy development, allocation frameworks, clinical protocols and other clinical priorities.
  • Collaborates with transplant program partners including, physicians, surgeons, and hospital leadership.
  • Supports and guides the implementation of the transplant strategy to include governance models, performance measurement, planning, outreach programs and communication strategies.
  • Participate and/or chairs provincial committees, working groups, and other advisory bodies related to transplantation.
  • Offers clinical guidance on complex transplant cases, emerging clinical issues, and system-level challenges affecting transplantation. Provides 24/7 support to OH-TGLN's Provincial Resource Centre to support decision making on complex donor cases, organ allocation, emerging clinical issues, and other operational challenges.
  • Works closely with OH-TGLN Donation partners to maximize the opportunity for donation and transplantation.
  • Serves as part of the roster for Administrator On-Call and be available to Transplant Support Physicians for active case consults on medical-legal matters that impact clinical practice or integrity of the deceased donor and transplant system.
  • Oversees the Physician Transplant Leads at OH-TGLN, which includes recruitment and mentorship of the Transplant Medical Leads, Transplant Medical Advisors and Transplant Support Physician roles.
  • Participates in Ontario Health executive and Board committee meetings, as required.
  • Serves as a media spokesperson for OH-TGLN, as required, providing medical expertise on transplant-related issues.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of clinical experience in organ transplantation.
  • Actively practicing physician and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and other relevant college.
  • Understanding of Ontario's health care system, health care delivery program operations, community-based health care delivery models and related regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in transplantation, health care systems, with a focus on advising on operational and strategic pirorities related to transplantation and system performance.
  • Strong understanding of the governance, funding, and accountability structures within the Ontario health care system.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion excellence through consultation, communication and relationship-management skills, fostering collaboration among a diverse network of stakeholders.
