Position summary

Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest the position of Quality Lead, Psychiatry, Psychosocial Oncology (PSO). This is a unique opportunity to provide leadership in quality improvement for oncology mental health services at the system level. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

Accountabilities

The Quality Lead, Psychiatry, Psychosocial Oncology, role will support Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario)’s mandate to improve access to PSO services. This role will provide tactical and strategic leadership in identifying opportunities to expand access to menthal health services for cancer patients. This work will involve collaboration with provincial and regional stakeholders to explore innovative models of care, approaches to funding, and/or other areas of opportunity. While the primary focus of the role will be improving access to psychiatry, this role will also support the Provincial Head, PSO to advance the quality of PSO services across various disciplines (e.g., social work, psychology, psychiatry, nutrition, rehab, etc).

The primary responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Work closely with regional stakeholders to identify opportunities for expanding access to psychiatry and other specialized mental health services for cancer patients
  • Provide clinical leadership to improve the quality of oncology mental health services at the provincial level
  • Provide clinical input on the development, implementation and concordance of PSO guidelines and strategic documents (e.g. PSO Service Delivery Framework, Oncology Caregiver Support Framework, CCO clinical guidance on depression, exercise and sexual health).
  • Work collaboratively with the Provincial Head, PSO, and other program Provincial Heads and Clinical Leads to support cross-program initiatives and to address common goals related to safe, effective, high quality, person-centred care
  • Participate as a member of CCO’s Provincial PSO Committee and Clinical Council
  • Collaborate with relevant clinical communities and other key stakeholders such as funding bodies, research bodies and patient and family advisors as needed, on behalf of CCO

Qualifications

  • A psychiatrist registered and in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario
  • Clinical, research and/or academic experience in the area of psychosocial oncology (PSO)
  • Clinical leadership experience within health care and/or academic institutions
  • Knowledge of clinical, administrative and system issues with respect to cancer services
  • Strong professional presence and ability to present to large and small audiences in a concise, articulate and dynamic fashion
  • Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, quality improvement in cancer care at the system level
