Position Summary
Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest from surgeons for Sector Support Clinical Leads for its Surgery Program within the Sector Capacity and Planning (SCP) portfolio. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.
The OH Sector Support Clinical Lead will work with the Medical Imaging and Surgery Team (MIST) within SCP. MIST is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of the drivers of health system planning, funding, performance and capacity in medical imaging and surgery. Additionally, this team highlights and provides recommendations on opportunities to improve access to services, deliver on OH’s strategic priorities related to medical imaging and surgery, and influence improvement within the health care system.
In addition to supporting the Sector Support Surgery Team, the Clinical Lead focuses on the tracking of performance management targets in the clinical lead’s area of expertise; peer education; stakeholder engagement; system access and efficiency; and system capacity and funding. The Wait Time Information System (WTIS) and Surgical Efficiency Targets Program (SETP) are leveraged to support evidence-based decision making.
The Sector Support Surgery Team is seeking one Clinical Lead for each of the following surgical areas:
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Ophthalmology Surgery
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Gynaecology Surgery
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Otolaryngology Surgery
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Thoracic Surgery
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry
- OH Sector Support Clinical Lead, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Accountabilities
OH Sector Support Clinical Leads perform the following functions in relation to their area of expertise to bring value to the Ontario healthcare system by:
- Serving as a key advisor/subject matter expert to MIST on the development and execution of the strategic direction and goals for MIST initiatives.
- Leading/co-chairing/attending quarterly advisory meetings with all OH Sector Support Clinical Leads and MIST, as well as other meetings and participating in and/or co-chairing project-specific working groups, as needed.
- Helping to ensure overall alignment between medical imaging and surgical wait times and efficiencies with other Ontario Health provincial
- Identifying system trends, providing clinical input and context to find opportunities to reduce wait times and improve efficiencies (e.g., capacity issues, resourcing, equipment, etc.).
- Supporting ongoing clinical community engagement by:
- providing advice on ongoing physician adoption and compliance, particularly during new system deployments
- following escalation processes to address wait times issues with physicians, hospitals, facilities or Regions
- Providing clinical input on system capacity and funding planning
- Developing/supporting other work where applicable and offering support and clinical guidance for new or ad hoc MIST initiatives
Qualifications
Candidates for this role must, at a minimum:
- Be a practicing physician holding a valid certificate of registration, and be in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Hold a valid certificate of registration as a practicing clinician and hold a valid certificate of registration as a practicing clinician in the area being represented
- Possess a minimum of five to seven years of experience in healthcare leadership positions with increasing responsibility in complex and dynamic organizations
- Be recognized as a leader within the clinical community
- Be a champion for the use of information to measure, report and improve on performance
- Understand the challenges faced during planning and implementation of large-scale IM/IT initiatives in the healthcare sector
- Possess excellent communication skills with mature leadership experience in establishing strong relationship and building consensus
