Advancing Critical Care for Ontario: Critical Care Services Ontario Transfers into Ontario Health
Critical Care Services Ontario joins Ontario Health as of October 1, 2025, to strengthen critical care, ensuring consistent, high-quality services across the province.
This is an important step toward creating a more connected and coordinated system for critical care and related programs across the province. This transition supports the Ministry of Health’s Your Health plan and Ontario Health’s commitment to connect and coordinate the system to deliver the highest standard of patient-centred care.
Since its creation in 2005, the program has played a leading role in coordinating specialized programs such as adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care, as well as neurosurgery, trauma, and burns. They have built a strong foundation and relationships with Ontario’s critical care network.
Critical Care Service Ontario’s partnership with other clinical program areas will extend this impact even more, by strengthening planning, policy, quality and performance management. The goal is to ensure patients of all ages have timely access to consistent, high-quality care wherever they live.
“Bringing CCSO into Ontario Health allows us to apply the strengths of our provincial clinical program framework to critical care. For patients and families, it means a more consistent experience of care, no matter where in the province they are,” says Judy Linton, Executive Vice President, Acute and Hospital-Based Care, and Chief Nursing Executive.
Looking ahead, this integration positions Ontario Health to expand its work in acute and hospital-based care, ensuring critical care and related programs continue to evolve to meet patient needs.
“As CCSO becomes part of Ontario Health, we are evolving into a more robust and stronger clinical organization, better positioned to provide consistent, high-quality care throughout the province,” says Chris Simpson, Executive Vice President, Acute and Hospital-Based Care, and Chief Medical Executive.
The new provincial Critical Care program will be led by Robin Horodyski, Vice President, and Dr. Andrew Baker, Clinical Lead for Critical Care, Acute and Hospital-Based Care.
