Through the Health Innovation Pathway, Ontario Health is launching a time-limited technology project to further understand the benefits of adopting non-invasive abdominal wall surgical support devices for open abdominal surgery in Ontario.

The Health Innovation Pathway funding is intended for the evaluation of the clinical utility and economic impact of the technology across Ontario to improve patient and provider experience, while supporting health service providers readiness for innovation adoption.
Objectives:
- Generate evidence to close the gap related to the effectiveness and economic impact of using an innovative non-invasive abdominal wall surgical support device for open abdominal surgery, compared with standard of care
- Identify requirements for procurement and implementation of the technology (e.g. technology deployment parameters, training needs, infrastructure and cross-sector collaboration)

Criteria for successful proposals
Health service providers wishing to submit a proposal to explore the incorporation of non-invasive abdominal wall surgical supports are to complete an application outlining the following components:
- Health system context, description of the need, the proposed technology, target population and anticipated benefits
- Project activities, study design and evaluation plans, including (but not limited to):
- Project size – number of patients and list of participating sites
- Methods for data collection and analysis
- Outcomes to be measured and reported
- Implementation considerations and requirements
- Planned use of funds and budget justification
- Team composition, expertise and capacity
