Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The 2024 CQCO Quality and Innovation (QI) Awards welcome nominations from any program or initiative that provides cancer prevention activities or cares for people being treated for or living with cancer in Ontario.

The Equity Award is presented to the program or initiative that best demonstrates the following criteria based on Ontario Health’s Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Anti-Racism Framework which includes:

  • Reduction in health disparities for patients, families, and providers,
  • Partnership with Black and/or other equity-deserving communities to identify, design, and deliver health services that meet the equity needs of the communities served,
  • Use of data for planning, development, and evaluation related to equity,
  • Long-term sustainability and opportunity for expansion.

The Equity Award nomination must show measurable evidence of how the initiative improved outcomes.

Upon preliminary review of your nomination, we may recommend that your submission be considered for a different award category.

Glossary of Key Terms

The Framework defines diversity, equity and health disparities as follows:

Diversity

The range of visible and invisible qualities, experiences and identities that shape who we are, how we think, how we engage with and how we are perceived by the world. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, physical or mental abilities, religious or spiritual beliefs, or political ideologies. They can also include differences such as personality, style, capabilities, and thought or perspectives.

Equity

Unlike the notion of equality, equity is not about sameness of treatment. It denotes fairness and justice in process and in results. Equitable outcomes often require differential treatment and resource redistribution to achieve a level playing field among all individuals and communities. This requires recognizing and addressing barriers to opportunities for all to thrive in our society.

Health Disparities

Differences in health access, experience or outcomes in a way that is systematic, patterned, and preventable.
